Setting the stage: ‘Labour Participation after Cancer’.
At the moment cancer is still considered as fatal. Cancer survivors are considered ‘burning houses’. Therefore, cancer survivors are excluded from insurance, new mortgages and work. Unfortunately, these exclusions are based on old data and old ideas. Nowadays, more than 50 % of the cancer patients recover completely. In the future even more patients will recover.
If we want to help cancer survivors getting back their life, we have to change the way society thinks, the way cancer is perceived, and the way people talk about cancer. We have to start talking about LIFE after cancer.
